Marvel and Gameloft are binging a new Spider-Man game to Apple’s iDevices called Spider-Man: Total Mayhem on September 2, 2010.

The game’s controls will be similar to Iron Man 2 for the iPhone/iPad, but will be programmed for a great experience as a web-slinging superhero.  The graphics are in full 3D, but have a comic book like style, and the storyline is inspired by the Ultimate Spider-Man comics.  Throughout the game you’ll run into several Spider-Man foes, and you’ll travel across 12 massive levels.

Spider-Man: Total Mayhem is coming to iTunes on September 2, 2010.

Sweet!  A new game has been released that allows for Apple iDevice users to play Android users in head-to-head combat.  In Skies of Glory, you take the cockpit of a classic fighter plane and you dogfight against each other via the internet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.  Check out the trailer below to see some of the action!

DC Comics has finally launched their own digital comic app on Sony Playstation devices (Playstation 3 and PSP) and Apple’s iOS4 range of devices (iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad).

Both the comiXology (Apple) and the PlayStation Network Digital Comics launch offerings will include classic titles from DC Comics, Vertigo and WildStorm, such as Batman: Hush, Green Lantern: Rebirth, Fables: Legends in Exiles and Planetary: All Over the World and Other Stories. Both programs will share a tiered pricing format, with digital comics priced from $.99 to $2.99 per issue. The Justice League: Generation Lost mini-series will be available through both platforms day and date with each issue’s print edition on-sale date, with both the digital and print editions priced at $2.99. Several comics will be available for free at launch, including the first installment of the ZUDA series Bayou and select stories from Batman: Black & White.

To further promote today’s announcement, DC Comics is offering a free 10-page preview of the 700th issue of Superman available through both platforms, day and date with the issue going on sale in comic book stores. The 10 page story is a prelude to writer J. Michael Straczynski and artist Eddy Barrows’ highly anticipated “Grounded” storyline that will be published in Superman which will examine how Superman sees America, and how America sees Superman.

Co-Publisher at DC Comics, Jim Lee, had this to say about the launch of the app:

“At DC Comics, it has been a top priority that DC forges a meaningful, forward-looking digital strategy.  As both a comic book creator and Co-Publisher, it was incredibly important that our plan includes not only creator incentive payments, but also an innovative component that supports comic shop owners. We see digital as an opportunity to grow our entire business.”

All devices will share a pricing format that will range from $.99 to $2.99 per issue for classics from DC Comics, Vertigo, and WildStorm.

The Black Panther animated series that made its debut on BET in Australia, is finally coming to everyone, everywhere via digital download.  iTunes, Playstation Network, Xbox Live, and Microsoft Zune will all have the capability to download the series starting June 23, 2010, and there will be 12 episodes total.

Black Panther: Who Is The Black Panther? has the voice talents of Djimon Hounsou as Black Panther; Jill Scott as Storm, Kerry Washington as Princess Shuri; Alfre Woodard voicing both Dondi Reese and Queen Mother; and Carl Lumbly as Uncle S’Yan, and Stan Lee.

Black Panther: Who Is The Black Panther? arrives via digital download on June 23, 2010.

Apple revealed their iPhone 4 this week and detailed some of the features the smartphone will sport.  Here’s what you can expect from it:

Two different versions: A 16GB version for $199, and a 32GB version for $299 (all with a two-year agreement).

Dual cameras:  The front camera will be a VGA camera, and the rear camera will be capable of taking 5 megapixel pictures, and will have a 5x digital zoom and 720p video recording & editing capabilities.

FaceTime:  An application that will use the front facing camera and will allow for video calling to other iPhone 4 users.  You can only use this program on Wi-Fi networks, not for use on the AT&T network.

New processor: The iPhone 4 has a new A4 chip processor.

Screen size: The new iPhone will have a 3.5 inch display with 960 x 640 pixel resolution with Retina display.

Multitasking and Battery Life:  The new phone will include 40% more battery life and will include multitasking capabilities (finally!).

The iPhone 4 will be available June 24, 2010.

Not on AT&T?  If you want a phone that will be similar on a different network, check out the HTC EVO 4G on Sprint, or the HTC Incredible on Verizon.  Both phones come loaded with Google Android, that houses an app library growing as fast as the iPhone app library!

Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 has been delayed from its original release date of Summer 2010, to the latter half of 2010.

The reasoning SEGA gave for the delay is:

“allow the Development Team to focus on keeping the game high quality, continuing tuning and balancing of levels and interface and overall maintaining the kind of polish that an important game like this demands, ultimately providing fans with an unrivaled classic Sonic feel,”

They have released a trailer however for our enjoyment, or torture, however you want to see it…

Those who have jailbroke BETA copies of Apple’s next operating system for the iPhone (OS 4), have noticed strands of code that seem to be pulling Facebook contact information and calendar events.

If you own a Palm Pre or Pixi or any of the new HTC phones with SenseUI, you already know what this does and means (and it’s pretty darn convenient too!).  Basically, when you enter your Facebook credentials on the device, it goes out and pulls your Facebook contacts and events and integrates them instantly. 

So, if you are friends with (we’ll say for this example) James T Kirk on Facebook, you will now have him in your Contacts screen on your iPhone along with his birthday, and any events he’s added to Facebook in your Calendar.  If he ever changes his info, it will automatically update on your device too!

Across the Internet, several websites use Adobe Flash to create interactive content, play videos, or just make neat animations for you to see.  However, to see them, you have to download a special external application (or player) to handle that type of content.

Many portable devices such as a cell phone, iPod Touch (or iPhone), iPad, Nintendo DS, and many other devices are unable to view content that requires Adobe Flash because no support or applications have been created for them.  They are unable to download the special application that computers can use, so  if you’re wanting to see a video on YouTube, for example, you’re going to be out of luck.  Many workplaces block Flash content as well, and if you try to surf the Internet at work and run across a site that needs Flash, unless you have administrator rights on your computer you’re not going to be able to install the Flash player.

That’s where HTML5 is coming into play and in a BIG way.  It aims to reduce the need for proprietary plug-in-based rich internet application technologies such as Adobe Flash, Microsoft Silverlight, Apache Pivot, and Sun Java FX.  Many companies are already praising HTML5 for being a game-changer, and after testing it out, I am believing it too.  HTML5 is brought to us by Ian Hickson of (who else) GOOGLE, Inc.

Here’s some of the benefits HTML5 offers:

• No browser plug-in, no Flash dependencies
• Jump anywhere in the video and it’ll start buffering from that point
• Uniform user interface across all browsers
• Supported in all browsers (even many mobile browsers)
• iPhone & iPod Touch & iPad support
• No need for new applications… already in the programming language

The newest OS for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad was revealed this week, and with it will bring a slew of new features to the devices.

OS 4 as it’s known, will be available this Summer for the iPhone and iPod Touch, and will be available for the iPad this Fall.

Notable features of this OS 4 are (thanks to Engadget for the summary):

• Multitasking
• Spell check
• Bluetooth keyboard support
• User-defined wallpaper
• Tap to focus when recording video, just like with photos, and a 5x digital zoom for the camera
• Background audio
• Background VIOP
• Local Notifications
• Fast app switching
• Playlist creation and nested playlists
• App folders for sorting apps.  You can even put an app folder in the dock
• Enhanced Mail
  You can have a merged inbox view, switch between inboxes quickly, and sync to more than one Exchange account. There’s also threaded messaging (at last!) and in-app attachment viewing.
• iBooks, just like on iPad, only smaller. You can wirelessly sync books between platforms.
• iAd (helps keep apps free)
• Enterprise features, including remote device management and wireless app distribution.
• Game Center
  Includes achievements, leaderboards, and match making. It will be available as a "developer preview," and out for consumers later this year.

Marvel announced a joint venture with Apple, and has released an app that will be similar to iBooks but cover comic books instead. 

iVerse Comics isn’t Marvel’s app, but is a digital comic company that produces digital long form comic books for the iPhone and iPod Touch. 

iVerse will display comics in full pages or allow zooming to see panel-to-panel style viewing like many of the existing iPhone and iTouch apps available now.

Netflix is currently streaming to numerous gaming consoles and Blu-ray players, and now they’ve announced an agreement to stream to a wide range of Apple products like the iPhone, iTouch, or iPad.

Netflix members will be able to instantly watch unlimited TV episodes and movies streamed from Netflix to iPad

With 12.3 million U.S. subscribers at the end of 2009, Netflix is significantly expanding the ways in which its members can watch movies and TV episodes streamed directly to a range of devices such as the iPad. Netflix memberships starting as low as $8.99 a month allow members to instantly watch unlimited TV episodes and movies streamed to their TVs and computers and receive unlimited DVDs delivered quickly to their homes.

The Netflix App for iPad will be available for free from the App Store on iPad or at www.itunes.com/appstore/.

Square Enix released the classic Final Fantasy games to the iPhone and iPod Touch recently, and now they are working on a new series called Chaos Rings.

The game is being developed by Wild ARMs studio Media.Vision, and it takes place in Ark Arena where male/female teams battle to the death.

No word on its release date as of yet.

Electronic Arts plans on expanding the Sports Active brand with a new version called EA Sports Active 2.0.

This newest version will include new workouts, new environments, new drills, and three brand new sensors that will go on the users leg and each arm (left arm for heart rate and right arm for control – which the Wii version won’t have because you’ll use the Wiimote).  All the additional sensors are going to provide more accurate stats and progress tracking, and there will be a new online hub where you can go share your progress with others and join virtual workout groups.

EA Sports Active 2.0 will be available for the Nintendo Wii, Playstation 3, iPhone and iPod Touch this Fall 2010.
