Green Lantern animated series not to be based on the movie

The upcoming Green Lantern: The Animated Series is not going to be based on the upcoming live-action Green Lantern movie from Warner Bros.  Instead, it will be based on the comics and current storylines in the comics.

The newly appointed story editor to the series is none other than Jim Krieg, who was responsible for the 90’s animated Spider-Man and X-Men shows.  Krieg and team are going to mix computer animation with standard animation (like they did for Justice League Unlimited), and the story will feature many of the current characters in the comics today… including a Red Lantern Corps member.

Green Lantern: The Animated Series will arrive in the near future.

Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes newest trailer and first few episodes descriptions

Check out the newest trailer for Avengers: Earths’ Mightiest Heroes and the description of the first few episodes beneath it!

Avengers: Earths’ Mightiest Heroes is coming this Fall 2010 to DisneyXD.

"After an opening credits sequence that features a pop punk theme song and a menagerie of Marvel Heroes — including the Steve Rogers Captain America — the first episode opened with the ever-irascible Iron Man recovering stolen Stark Technology from a cadre of A.I.M scientists. Iron Man shuts down the operation, but the villain behind their scheme is remains unknown.

The next scene depicts an attack on the Vault, one of four super-prisons in the episode. Among the characters that manage to escape is the Hulk, who makes a deal with his alter ego Bruce Banner to work on the side of good in order to retain control of their body. Meanwhile, Hulk’s arch-nemesis the Leader takes over another prison code-named the Cube with the help of the Abomination and the Absorbing Man.

The Vault breakout is followed by a Thor subplot that introduces the thunder god and features "Thor" favorite Jane Foster and a cameo by Baldur the Brave.

The next prison depicted is — surprisingly — the S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier, in which Doctor Hank Pym and several assistant Ultrons observe their super-villain prisoners. This scene features cameos by Black Widow, Hawkeye, a female Whiplash, and a Nick Fury that’s a hybrid of both his film and comic personas. Iron Man soon arrives to help Pym in his Ant-Man/Giant-Man gear and take on the Gryphon and the Whirlwind.

Finally, the fourth breakout takes place on the Raft, where Baron Zemo and the mysterious Gravitron make their escape after spending six years imprisoned. Whereas Zemo is simply taking advantage of the situation, Graviton is the powerhouse behind all the breakouts, using his gravity-based powers to destroy the super-prisons.

The second episode of the two-part story reveals in a series of thrills how the five Avengers meet to take on Graviton and learn how he came to be. Unfortunately, seventy-four villains managed to escape the four prisons, and now the Avengers — with the help of SHIELD — must recapture the villains, setting up the premise of the series."

Captain America cartoon series of the 90’s was lost till now

Remember the X-Men cartoon series of the 90’s?  Well, during the fifth and final season of the X-Men cartoon run was an episode that featured Captain America that was going to serve as a launch pad for an entire series featuring Captain America.

The series was going to be set during World War 2, but many things wouldn’t have been familiar to Captain America fans.

  • First of all, there would be no Nazis… who were the main enemy of the WW2 era that Captain America was fighting against
  • Red Skull would have been a villain, but he’d have no Nazi ties whatsoever
  • Cap and the soldiers would have been equipped with weapons from the future
  • Cap’s name would have been Tommy Tompkins, and Steve Rogers would have been a cover name.

The series was also going to use the same mix of animation and computer generated scenes and graphics similar to the Spider-Man series of the 90’s.  However, it never made it past promo stages because Marvel had declared bankruptcy and had many management changes.

Take a look at the promo reel from the series below!

You ready for a Speedy Gonzales movie? It’s going to happen…

New Line Cinema is bringing Speedy Gonzales from the small cartoon TV screen to the big screen.  The same team behind the adaptation of Garfield, Alec Sokolow and Joel Cohen, will write the movie and George Lopez has been hired to voice the speedy cartoon mouse.

Aware that the character might be considered stereotypical, the team behind this movie plan to modernize Speedy and make him less offensive.  Apparently what’s been written so far has received George’s “Latino seal of approval”, so Lopez himself is helping produce the movie with his production team George Lopez Presents.

"We wanted to make sure that it was not the Speedy of the 1950s — the racist Speedy.  Speedy’s going to be a misunderstood boy who comes from a family that works in a very meticulous setting, and he’s a little too fast for what they do. He makes a mess of that. So he has to go out in the world to find what he’s good at." – Ann Lopez

Speedy won’t be animated à la cartoon style, but will instead be CGI and he’ll interact with live-action actors.  The storyline is going to be based on Speedy’s quest to become a race-car driver.

No release date is known at this time.

New Transformers series coming to TV called Transformers Prime

At the San Diego Comic-Con 2010, it will be announced that a new Transformers series is coming to television.

Not only will it star the voices of Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime, but will also have Frank Welker as Megatron.  Both actors did the voices in the original 80’s cartoon series, and have retained the roles for quite some time in various other Transformers related projects.

The computer animated series will take place on Earth, picking up after the movies where the Autobots and Decepticons have been hiding among us.  So far, Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Arcee, Bulkhead, Ratchet, and Cliffjumper will be with the Autobots.  Megatron, Starscream, and Soundwave will be the remaining Decepticons.

We should know a lot more about the series on July 22nd (after 4:30pm), because that’s when the reveal and panel will be.

Transformers Prime will air on The Hub (a new channel that will replace the Discovery Kids channel) in October 2010.
